Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator Installation!

The Ford fuel system in your mustang was designed to be cost effective and service a 225 HP engine. After modifying your mustang to the point of 500 HP you will have reached the end of the factory range. An in tank 255LPH or better will be required. That new pump will service you best with a fuel pressure regulator.

I purchased the BBK Fuel Pressure Regulator - Part #1707 - The price was $139.00 (CAD) a couple of the other parts i used were a fuel pressure gauge (autometer) a couple brass NPT fittings and a small piece of 1/8 Threaded brass, teflon tape. The installation was very straight forward, but remember you are working with a fuel system under pressure!

Follow the instructions provided with your adjustable fuel pressure regulator, they might be slightly different than what is in my car (1994 SN95).

General Instructions:

  • Disconnect Battery
  • Allow pressure to drain from fuel system or use shradder valve to bleed off the pressure.
  • Unbolt the two (HEX) bolts that hold the factory regulator in place.
  • disconnect the vacuum hose from the regulator.
  • Firmly lift straight upwards from the fuel rail. Be sure not to loose any o-ring washers that are on the bottom of your old regulator you will need them on your new adjustable fuel pressure regulator.
  • Make sure all o-rings are in place then press your new FPR into the fuel rail.
  • Place the two hex bolts back into the rail and tighten.
  • If you are adding a fuel pressure gauge to your FPR you should have already done this and tightened it all up.
  • Follow directions for setting fuel pressure, disconnect the vacuumed line and plug it. Set your fuel pressure to 39 psi or your desired level.

The car starts much easier now, the idle seems to have cleaned itself up since the adjustable fuel pressure regulator was installed. I have noticed that after 3500 RPM the car seems much more responsive to the throttle.

This is a very easy part to replace and you wont find any problems provided you don't drop any of the bolts!.
