Painting the Hood!

With a little bit of previous painting experience from cabinet doors, and various other projects in the past (boat restoration). I decided that I was going to paint my hood. The car already has lots of nicks and scratches in the finish, and its not a show car. So Save $$$$ was kind of important.

Painting the Hood I purchased 1 liter of centari black from acklands supply along with reducer and hardner.
Painting the Hood Here are the painting supply's and my old paint pot gun.
Painting the Hood After sanding and cleaning (de greaser) a bit of masking tape to cover the holes ( the bottom side has already been sprayed)
Painting the Hood Slightly different angle to make sure you can see the hood.
Painting the Hood Here are some of the scratches etc that were filled with bondo then sanded out. Covered a second time with glassing putty to make them nice and smooth.
Painting the Hood 15 Minutes later the paint is applied and the hood is drying!

Spaying in my garage with a very large ventilation fan and proper safety equipment. USE A RESPORATOR!!!!!!!!!

This costs for this project:

  • Paint supplies $160.00
  • Sandpaper $4.00
  • De greaser $8.00
  • Respirator $48.00

Estimates from the body shops to get the hood painted ranged from $350 - $500
